CAR Coalition Applauds President Trump for Protecting Americans’ Right to Repair

Presidential Memo Expands Consumer Choice, Reduces Emissions Related Repair Restrictions

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 29, 2026) – The CAR Coalition today praised President Trump for signing a presidential memo directing federal action to protect Americans’ right to repair their own vehicles and expand access to aftermarket parts, without being accused of circumventing emissions controls. The action comes as auto repair costs have surged, far outpacing general inflation, leaving millions of consumers with fewer choices and higher bills.

“President Trump’s action today is a win for every American who has ever been handed an outrageous repair bill and told they had no other option. This is exactly the kind of common-sense leadership consumers have been waiting for,” said CAR Coalition Executive Director Justin Rzepka. “When you lose choice, costs go up. Automakers have spent years locking consumers out of their own vehicles, restricting access to repair data, diagnostics, and parts to steer them into dealership networks.”

“The CAR Coalition thanks the President for standing with consumers, independent repair shops, and the millions of hardworking Americans for whom an unexpected repair bill is a real financial crisis. We look forward to working with the administration and Congress to turn this momentum into lasting, bipartisan policy that protects repair choice for every driver in America.”
